Today I’ll be creating the script for the CCR question How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues?
In a previous blog post I researched genre film conventions, I researched the films Beautiful boy and Manchester by the Sea. In this research I learned that a good drama movie needs strong characters and a good emotional story. If the audience doesn’t care about what’s happening, the movie won’t be interesting. Acting is super important because if the emotions don’t feel real, the whole thing falls apart. The dialogue also has to sound natural, or it can feel forced. A good drama makes people feel something, whether it’s happy, sad, or even frustrated. Also, the way they are filmed is pretty simple, with a lot of close-up shots to show emotions and soft lighting to make things feel more personal. Drama movies usually take their time telling a story so the audience can really connect with the characters.
Here is my script for the CCR:
For my film opening, I followed a lot of the typical genre conventions of a drama. A drama movie needs strong characters and a good emotional story. A good drama makes people feel something, whether it’s happy, sad, or even frustrated. Also, they are filmed with a lot of close-up shots to show emotions and soft lighting to make things feel more personal. Drama movies usually take their time telling a story so the audience can really connect with the characters.
In my project, I stuck to these rules because I wanted the audience to connect with the character and feel the emotion in the story. I didn’t try to challenge these drama conventions because I think they are what make drama movies powerful. My goal was to tell a serious and emotional story about addiction, so I followed the normal drama conventions to make sure it felt real and strong.
My film represents teenagers who struggle with drug addiction. A lot of times, people think drug addiction is just a choice, but I wanted to show how it’s really a deeper problem and how it affects young people who once had big dreams. My character is someone who used to be successful dancer, but drugs took over their life. I think this is important to show because it helps people understand the real struggles some teens go through.
